Red Bluff Mornington by Billy Nye

ARTIST NOTES: When Fred Williams painted the beach at Mornington he called his painting, "Red Bluff Mornington". This particular spot at the Mornington Beach is a gorgeous walk and one that I frequent often. Sometimes you can find objects on the beach and take home. Other times you can see rubbish and I usually pick it up and take to the rubbish bin. This particular work is inspired by one of many walks along the beach at Mornington Beach. Its a different perspective and view of the beach. Or, is it a message in a bottle for someone special? I love to draw in Charcoal, it is a rich and bold material that can create great atmosphere like no other medium.

Graduate in Fine Art and Visual Culture, Nye focuses her artwork on the "simplicity of the suburban landscape'. Ordinary landmarks such as; swimming pools, houses, fences, power lines and suburban streets, are scenes of home. Not to mention the amazing Port Phillip Bay and the gateway to the Peninsula "Olivers Hill".

Painting and Printmaking are her main genres with a particular interest in woodcutting. Nyes work is collected all over the Peninsula and has a reputation for her simplicity of the suburban streetscape and the paradise of domesticity. Seeing the beauty in everyday things and making associations with nostalgia.
