ARTIST BIO

Gail Barton was born in Melbourne and grew up in the bayside suburb of Beaumaris. She studied at the Caulfield Institute of Technology from 1969-1973,achieving a Diploma of Art and Design .A Diploma of Education in 1975 completed her formal education.

Gail has been teaching art from 1975 to the present time,including ten years at Frankston College of T.A.F.E ( 1976-1986 ) and currently several classes at the Brighton Recreational Centre. Since building a private studio in East Brighton,she teaches many private and group classes weekly.

Gail has won many awards,most recent being highly commended at the Bayside Rotary Art Show, 2010. At this art show Gail was an invited artist and also sold two paintings. Other awards are Best Contemporary Painting, Bayside Rotary Art Show 2009, Highly Commended Bayside Rotary Art Show 2008. Best Watercolour OLSH Art Show 2008. Best Pastel, Brighton Art society 2005, Best Bayside Artist, Bayside Rotary Art Show 2005. Prior to these,Best Watercolour, Brighton Art Society 2003, Hodges Acquisitive Prize 2002, Very Highly Commended Oil 2002. The same painting was on special display at the Camberwell Art Show 2003.

Art has been a driving force for Gail and she has sold many paintings in several group exhibitions.These include countless Rotary Art Shows, Without Pier Gallery 2010, 2009, 2008, Brighton Art Society, Malvern Art Society, Market Gallery and Ithacan Society.

Galleries currently representing her work are Without Pier Gallery in Cheltenham and Suburban Contemporary Gallery in Brighton.

Many private commissions have been painted in pastel, watercolour and oil. These have been diverse in subject matter, ranging from portraits, buildings, animals, landscapes, seascapes and contemporary pieces. The Myer city store and Wrest Point Casino had commissioned her to design many corporate and contemporary paintings during the 1970's.

Gail is represented in many private collections in Australia and overseas.Her art is displayed in her studio and home for private viewing by appointment.
